"Look around you, your life is far better than many people out there. So, be happy how lucky you are." -- Is this what you usually use to cheer yourself up sometimes? Well, I hate it!
Many people use this statement with me when I feel down to cheer me up. It used to work, but not anymore. I keep wondering if it's necessary to see flaws of others' lives to cover your own.
In short term, comparison may work. It makes you see how good your life is compared to others. Ironically, you can't avoid seeing how many more other people's lives are better than yours.
Thus, in long term, your happiness turns to depend on comparison, on how others are living their lives. What a pity!
No life is perfect. Face the problem, admit it and just move on! While it's not hard to believe that happiness is always within your own control. It's damn hard in practice. When we are in the blue, it's so difficult to see this fact. So, practice!
Find something you love that can bring you back to the ground and bring peace to your soul. So, you have time to calm down and realize that life still has a beautiful side.
For me, I love ice-cream. Making it and tasting it make me so happy. It's just that--a simple way to be happy again.
